Are you renovating, extending or removing a load-bearing wall? ROMB is a structural engineering and building-design firm in Rotterdam. We handle the technical side of your project: from structural calculations and architectural drawings to steelwork, foundations and guidance through the environmental permit.
We are not a contractor and do not carry out the building work ourselves. We make sure your plan is structurally safe and technically verifiable on paper, so your contractor can quote and build on the same set of starting points.

Are you changing something in the load-bearing structure of your home during a renovation? Then a structural calculation is often needed. We calculate, among other things, steel beams, steel portal frames, timber and steel joist layers, foundations, foundation beams, roof structures and stability. Where necessary we also check existing structural elements. The aim is that the loads of the new and existing structure are carried safely down to the foundation.
Architectural drawing work and building drawings
A good building drawing forms the technical basis of virtually every renovation and permit application. We provide architectural drawing work: measuring and digitising the existing situation, floor plans, elevations, sections, details and permit drawings. This way the client, contractor, structural engineer and municipality all use the same information.
Removing a load-bearing wall and wall openings
Do you want to remove a load-bearing wall or make a larger opening? We determine which replacement load-bearing structure is needed — for example a steel beam or a complete steel portal frame — and record it in calculation and drawing, including supports and the load path down to the foundation.
Annex, rear extension and roof extension
For an annex, rear extension or roof extension we provide both the architectural and structural process: from design and building drawings to foundation, floor, façade opening, steel structure and roof. Because both disciplines are coordinated within one firm, building design and structure connect directly.
Environmental permit and building guidance
Many renovations need an environmental permit, or it must be shown that the plan is permit-free. We tailor the drawings and calculations to the required application documents and can guide the application. Even when no permit is needed, the structure must comply with the technical rules of the Bbl.

ROMB is based in Rotterdam and works for private renovations and small-scale building projects in and around Rotterdam. Because we make the structure part of the design from the start — rather than fitting it in afterwards — a coherent plan emerges that is technically sound and practically buildable.

Are you a contractor?
No. ROMB is a structural engineering and building-design firm. We provide calculations, drawings and permit guidance, but do not carry out the building work ourselves. Your contractor builds on the basis of our documents.
Can I order a single service?
Yes. You can, for example, have only a structural calculation, a building drawing or a survey made. We tailor the commission to what your project needs.
Do you work with my contractor or architect?
Yes. We coordinate the structural starting points and details with the contractor, steel fabricator or architect where necessary.
Which area do you work in?
We work for renovations and small-scale building projects in and around Rotterdam.
Do you also provide the permit drawings?
Yes. When this is part of the commission, we make the drawing set suitable for the environmental permit and can guide the application.
